SCOPE
The scope of the course is to provide theoretical knowledge and to some extend practical skills in welding for cryogenic applications within the field of big science accelerators.
CONTENT
The introductory course in welding and inspection of Helium leak-tight structures will touch upon the following topics:
1. Steels for cryogenic applications
a. Types
b. Metallurgy
c. Welding
2. Stainless steels
a. Types
b. Metallurgy
c. Welding
3. Aluminium
4. Shrinkage and deformation by welding of thin-sheet structures
a. Welding techniques for minimizing the heat induced deformation and shrinkage
5. Leak-testing
a. Helium leak-testing
b. Acoustic ultrasonic testing
6. Other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods
a. Short introduction to other relevant NDT methods for inspection and verification of welds (incl. ultrasonics, radiography and dye penetrant-based methods).
RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES
Knowledge of stainless steels.
Professional worker and/or high school education. [DK:

Schedule
This 2-day course will be given at 9:00-15:00 on both days at FORCE technology, park Alle 345,DK-2606 Brondby, Denmark.
